New ConTex Index Reports Stable Container Shipping Market in October 2025

A large container ship moves through calm waters under a clear sky, symbolizing the stable market conditions reported by the New ConTex Index in October 2025.

A new report from the New ConTex index, dated October 16, 2025, indicates stability in the container ship charter market. The overall index experienced a minor decline of 0.6%, settling at 1,517 points; however, current rates remain higher than those from the same period last year.

The most significant annual growth was seen in 1,700 TEU vessels, which recorded a substantial 33.5% increase. In contrast, 6,500 TEU ships saw the most modest growth, with only a 1.5% rise.

The report emphasizes that limited vessel supply and steady demand have prevented a significant drop in rates. Furthermore, shipowners are securing better rates by favoring short-term contracts over long-term commitments.

In a positive development for the industry, the Gaya peace agreement and the potential reopening of the Red Sea shipping routes have contributed to a 4% increase in freight rates and a restoration of market confidence.

Market forecasts suggest that stability will persist in the short term. Should global trade see improvement, the market is expected to enter an upward trend in 2026.
